Product Design – Lester Loh Kin Yi
Pinramid
Project Description
My project aims to fill the gap in prototyping technology. While machines such as 3D printers and CNC routers allow for precise creation of objects, these are limited in size, and often take hours to days to complete. Pinramid aims to be an affordable, simple-to-use machine capable of generating large temporary surfaces within minutes, through the use of an array of computer-controlled pins. These surfaces may later be copied onto more permanent mediums, such as thermoformed plastic sheets. Other uses for this project include dynamic terrain generation, in which key terrain features can be easily identified on a 3D map.
