Kinematics: The Elements of Dance

Kinematics is an experimental guide to alternative ways of looking at the elements of dance, reimagining how dancers can further develop and explore their individual styles and attitudes towards the practice. Traditionally, dance requires mimicking bodies of movements to learn; however, this book explores the technicalities and conceptual ways of moving the body through various forms of visual communication, rethinking the ways in which dance can be presented without an actual body, or real-time movement. Due to the lack of an actual moving body, the elements of dance remain ambiguous, allowing dancers to create their own interpretations and outcomes rather than imitating another person’s style of movement, in hopes of encouraging spontaneity and imagination in their explorations.
