Urip Iku Urup
Urip Iku Urup is a final year project which revolves around
cultural modernity in Singapore. The visual and design of this
project is based on the narrative of my Javanese family and how
each generation interprets Javanese culture,
respectively.
As much as narratives on culture
is a common topic, my project will be based on how our family
practices and enjoys Javanese culture in modern-day Singapore
despite the slight clashes between the historical Javanese
traditions and Islamic belief. I showcased the narratives of
four different generations through the medium of Batik and how
it started from my great-grandfather who came to Singapore from
East Java in the 1920s.
