It's okay to be different!
Dyslexia is a learning difficulty that affects one’s ability to
read, spell and write. 85% of dyslexics have reported being
embarrased by their condition because they are often
misunderstood to be stupid and lazy. Worst of all, the low
self-esteem and anxiety they develop as a result of that
persists into adulthood as dyslexia is a lifelong condition. I
can attest to this because I am dyslexic myself and have
experienced first-hand the lingering ill-effects of the
childhood trauma. It is therefore imperative that the children
learn to embrace their dyslexic condition while they are still
young.
The aim of this project is to help
dyslexic children between 7-10 years old understand and embrace
their dyslexic condition. This will be done by working closely
with the DAS (Dyslexia Association of Singapore) to dispel the
negative connotations associated with this diagnosis. By helping
them seperate fact from myths, we can help dyslexic children
identify their strengths and weaknesses and in doing so, help
them develop better self-confidence.
